Nostalgia aside, there's a nice progression in this set too... helped in a large part by the mixing... this isn't safe mixing, there are a couple of mistakes in the loud introduction of next track, but this is T at his best - 20-25 years ago this "fluid" style was about keeping the energy, even if the mix wasn't as tight or controlled to wait for a more easier cue point or outro. There are signs of this here too, something i didn't hear in a while... additionally, i recommend to fully WATCH this set too. The energy, the smiling, the happiness... there's no auto pilot here, there's just a man in his element.
I'm still buzzing from this being a mixture of new material, touched-up oldies AND new (and let's say) obscure finds that really show the team had an attention to detail here. Benwal has a few plays from big DJs inc. Sasha; Stampedo has been picked up by PVD... but these are not exactly records you'll find at the top of 1001 tracklists trance section.
Listen to the lyrics of the acappella's.. listen to the vocals of Tear In The Blood or Beautiful Places. There's a message in here... being told through the music.
A lot of time and effort has been put into this new concept. I hope it is a sign of 2026 sets being in a similar style, he's got more artist productions he could rework, he's got more album tracks to keep it interesting, and if encouraged by the reception from this set.. also plenty of great new tracks with energy to tap into like the Benwal or other random finds from this set.
It's a shame i'm not 25 still, otherwise i'd be going crazy on this set |
You read my mind, I always liked the ambivalent Tijs. The perfect mixing the perfect mistakes, but it's like reading a really good book but it has spelling errors from time to time. The story is still very good. The riding just little of track, the flying along the guardrail but still managing to keep it on the road is thrilling to me. All the lyrics are growing on me, they're not the standard cheesy stuff I've been hearing earlier.
It so well thought out, credits for whomever helped in this. Whenever he scuffs against the stuff I like, I'm like yes! You just see he had to put effort in this too like the old festival type sets with vinyl. From #19 onwards you just see the emotions you always saw in the past.

Some of these released recordings have been edited compared to the original floor recording.
For example Ratty - Sunrise has had the full vocal from breakdown edited out on some versions online.

well this is the T i know and remember...
it's modernized yes, but in a good way! he really is mixing this one, hot damn! you can't get that choppy/not fitting saltwater/nyana mix in pre-programmed hahaha. just one example. even the newer tracks fit in really well wich shows (at least to me) that he (and his team) really put in the effort to make something of it. it's a journey, there is a flow, there are some akward tracks in, there's nostalgia. he uses his own tracks as the backbone for the rest to build around just like it used to be.
i am just really impressed to be honest...
i would love, LOVE to see/hear what he can do in a 4/5 hour set because that would mean he had to dig in the crates for more stuff around his own productions.
honestly wouldn't have thought to ever get this back, but this is what i came for alllll the way back in '97 - '98 being in Breda, enjoying Spock and De Massa, unpolished uplifting & euphoric, sometimes minimal, dark, edgy tracks mixed in with character not always caring about the match but more the feel of the floor and the significance of the track in it's place. it's here, i hope it stays.
thanks T!

Ah ok, could be yes the lenght of the floor and the real one is pretty much the same at least no cuts then. I have both files, will check later. The nod into the camera and the teary eyes it seems during Ratty man, what a moment.

@Summerbreeze - Amen!
Introduced Lenka (Cerrie for those who can remember) to the video in HD this morning... she's impressed too.. that must be the mark of a good set lol
The other commentary was "this is the wrong way around" for Legacy->Nyana
+
3-4 tracks in already complimented that this was proper mixing, like 20+ years ago.
+
She couldn't believe Sixty Nine Ways was played.
+
Had the similar reaction to my first listen to the acappella on Legacy, but i must say, that has grown on me so much. Vocals fit so much to the concept of course to look back.
@Rui - Absolutely!! (Ratty Sunrise)

Yeah those vocals are just too good now, when you keep in mind what a moment this is. Do you need your wife's opinion on this? Just kidding.
