After a long hiatus (15 years since my last Tiësto gig; December 2008 and the videos are up on my Youtube Channel as well), it's quite a trip to see what has happened to the scene, where it went from back then/the evolution of the people, and how things are going now at these events.

I recongised some of the tracks, some are new, some easy, and interesting that people are sampling/remixing really popular stuff from the past. Mindblowing also that it looks like he got the rights for Praiseworthy Tunes/Hoipolloi. There's a really nice track (sounds like his) that is a remix of Tyla - Water around 22 minutes, easily my favourite one of the night.

Pretty use he's still also using the L'Acoustics V-DOSC line arrays as his booth monitors as he did starting decades ago.

Tracklisting has to be WAAAYYY easier these days with all the technology, streaming, internet and devices (and even charging stations at the event?), easy entry, and yeah going from being the weirdo with the pencil/paper writing the tracks down to being the weirdo with the huge tablet recording (heh) Razz Youtube now IDs tracks and stamps copyrights as well so that's the double-edged side for the tracklisting stuff. That said, the Youtube output is donated above, the timestamps also are based on Youtube except for the ID track with the vocals from Tyla - Water I estimated to be around ~22-25min.

I'd argue it's more a devolution of the people Laughing Laughing

1001 has Water as the Tiesto Remix... another "tik tok" anthem reworked into something that can be put in the set with that prog touch

tracklisting did become easier... cos it's either old stuff in a new jacket or really really popular stuff.. very unusual there's anything new for very long, max 1-2 weeks; but also became harder, with pre-recorded sections and many edited tracks overlayed with others, it makes writing a list in order bloody hard (what is a mashup vs. what is just fast mixed in a pre-recorded bit).

Alice Deejay will be the Pickle Remix

Splitting "fast mixing" into separate ID points... those pre-recorded bits are just track after track after track, rather than something edited into one another... which can't be said for these 2:

adele vs. secrets
cannons vs. wasted vs. M83

those are overlapping each other and touched up to fit, so probably some Dzeko/Torres handled editing.

25:15 ID - ID is some remix of Moderat - More Love so I'm putting it up as Moderat - More Love (ID Remix).

Do you have a link/screenshot of where to look? I'm very interested to know who did this one, I expected with news of The Owl this past weekend, my guess is that Tiësto was going to debut it/release/introduce it as his remix and one of the surprises he claims he was holding out on before dropping out of performing. To me, it sounds like his older stuff especially the first time I heard it this night. Also, my understanding is he is working again with Hans Willem Mallon which could explain the old-style vibes of the days when he was working with Dennis Waakop Reijers.

WTF i would be really surprised if Mallon agreed Very Happy
/edit - i see from his twitter that he is now a talent scout for Musical Freedom, so the water clearly is under the bridge.

Note that Superbowl performance wasn't going to be the half time show or something on the telly (at least i didn't see anything of KasKade despite him being subbed in)... but pre-game warm-uo slot and during breaks in the play during the match.

I took that to be he'd be the dude pressing play on Zombie Nation when a touchdown is scored Laughing

I was keeping track of him as of the last ~decade or so and I think as of the last ~5 years, thats when HW Mallon was working or expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work back with him again. Was thinking of reaching out to him at one point even but it looks like Tijs and him were already talking before that could happen. I feel lots of influences from Mallon and the oldschool 'DJ Tiesto' days and as I recall, the name 'DJ Tiësto' (possibly even legally/contractually was the time when Mallon and Reijers were working with Tijs), I think the split came around ~2003/2004 with the dropping of the 'DJ' and Mallon leaving with only Reijers remaining with Tijs. Big change in the 'sound' when Mallon left as well. Either way, I'm happy they are all there on some level. It would be nice to talk with Tijs again but its been so many years and he's doing so many different things now plus he has his family, I wish him the best and glad to see hes still around but yeah, the scene has changed so much since the early 2000s and the time before that.

I couldn't find the Moderat track or the remix I remember just finding the track by having my headphones on trying to pick out the words from my recording, they match up to Moderat but the remix is unknown and doesn't look like he played it since this Countdown event.

Mallon is all talk, that's about it. I hear so many 'recent' stories about the guy I don't believe a thing about it.

AWC - i agree.. and same here, given the opportunity i probably wouldn't have much to say anymore Very Happy
The scene is different, the music is different, the DJs are different, their skillset clearly evolved from vinyl / more into brand marketing.
Tijs and his team saw that and helped define it. Well done.

There's a few moments - like when Drifting came out - where i get sucked back into that bubble...

...otherwise there's a general bitter taste, in knowing where it was, and where it is now. For when t gets an itch and tries to scratch that old vibe.. like that time he attempted to do a long set @ Ziggo.. and had to call on Hardwell to play for 2hrs of his 6hrs set cos he was totally lost trying to do something other than festival mixing.

Fortunately there's plenty of people still keeping it fresh without any need to appease the tik tok generation.

just that...

oh men, that ziggo set... that was, for me, the def. moment where i released (and T prob. did too) that this wasn't for him anymore in anyway... calling friend upon friend too try and keep that set rolling... first 1,5 hour wasn't that bad by comparison, but boy, that was some hindenberg crash right there that eve... ...

The irony is he said he's enjoying himself more than he did in the '95-'05 era. Where we thought he enjoyed himself a lot with the longer sets at the time. Weird thing to say for him, tho there's not that much pressure anymore as opposed to the time he wore the #1 crown for years.

P.S. he's getting old Laughing Family life does something to you as well.

This is a really off tangent rant but I wonder if it's just a U.S. or Tijs thing.. 90min sets and done.. etc... but anyway i see it also on CDW bookings so it must be universally the approach (at least for "EDM" shows)...

We used to party from like 11-5... clubs generally got full by 1.
These days the parties start at 19:00 and finish at 23:00.

What can you do at midnight when the venue closes? Hop to a real club? Very Happy

I understand how it evolved the shorter set and in keeping with the rock star style theme, its similar to a pop concert where a main act will perform 90mins set etc.. with the shorter attention span of most 18-30 somethings these days i can appreciate that's how it is.

Indeed for 1,5hrs it sounded quite promising at Ziggo, then it became a complete disaster... without direction and begging for bro's to step in and save it lol

Still as i say, it's all good.. there's some talent doing what they've always done or keeping within the original standards for dance music that can always turn my ear with their longer All Night sets Wink

Not a lot of people enjoy the journey type sets anymore, it's quite a niche to be honest. We've been spoiled.
